About me assignment 2

Part 1: Who are you? Tell a story about yourself
I came to the United States from Germany when I was three years old. My mother who was Czech and my father who was American decided that raising their children in America would be the best for us. My mother did not speak English and she and my father would use a German/English dictionary to be able to communicate. I guess love really does conquer all. Since I was only three, I too only spoke German and did not speak English.
My mother would love to tell stories about me as a child. One particular story, made her laugh so hard she would cry. This is her story.
When I was four years old, my mother would take me shopping with her. This was in the late seventies when big department stores had little cafes or dinning shops in the basement. We entered one such cafĂ© after shopping and sat at th. The waitress came and my mother turned to me and asked if I wanted chicken or fish. Of course, she was asking me in German. I stared at her blankly. She then nervously laughed and asked again in German if I wanted chicken or fish. I again said nothing and cocked my head to one side. This made my mother mad. She felt as she put it, “like a stupid foreigner”. The waitress waiting patiently smiled. My mother asked a third time in a more stern voice. I apparently whipped my head around, looked straight at her and yelled “HUH? What you say?” in English. My mother was so embarrassed that she pulled me off the stool and took me home.
From that day, I did not speak German again. My mother said that every time she spoke to me in German I would answer her in English.
Part two: Where do you come from?
I am a middle aged female and the third of four children from divorced parents. I was born in Germany and have lived all over the east coast of the United States and most of the Midwest. I have been divorced and both of my parents passed away by the time I was 26. I have worked since I was 13 years old and this is the first time I am attending college. I grew up in the projects and decided at a young age that I wouldn’t live that way. So I worked hard and have the things I want. But I still listen to rap and hip hop more than any other music. I am a bit of free spirit as I move around a lot, usually every year or two. I get bored easily. I prefer beaches to mountains and I prefer surfing to skiing. I have a dog and a cat.
Part three: What make you tick?
I hope to one day be a teacher and a mentor to children. I live my life in an honest, giving fashion. I give more then I take and hope that I set a good example for my niece and nephews. I want to explore the world and find myself.

About me assignment 1

I love animals. When I was a little girl I always wanted a cat. Now I love dogs too and over the years I have had a few, but my main love is my 15 year old cat, Bejaux.
Bejaux is an orange and white, long haired domestic male. People often say he looks like Garfield. He has a personality all his own. His behavior is very much like that of a dog, in that he will come when he is called and speaks on command. Bejaux has been by my side through some very rough times in my life including divorce and the death of both of my parents. He brings me comfort and gives me unconditional love.
About five years ago now, my beloved pet was diagnosed with diabetes. Many people didn’t know that cats or even dogs could develop such a disease and of course I was devastated. After going to the vet and doing research, I found that he could live a normal life with the help of insulin and close supervision of his behaviors. I had also found that I could do the blood testing at home just like a human does to make sure we were on track with his dosage and feedings. My only worry now was, what am I to do when or if I have to go out of town? Who would take care of a diabetic cat?
Most people would say, just take him to the veterinarian. They know what they are doing and if something happens they are right there. Now this fact is true, but I had found in my research that putting an animal whether it is a dog or a cat at a veterinarians’ office for boarding or at any boarding kennel would bring up the animals anxiety level which in turn could raise its blood sugar level. Since we had worked so hard at getting him on track, I didn’t want to see him go through another episode.
So I decided to start my own company. This company would be a pet sitting service for people who wanted or needed to go out of town but didn’t want to take their animals to the vet or a boarding kennel. I would train each employee how to help animals with diseases such as diabetes or ringworm that could not be boarded. It was a slow start but I have since expanded my business not just for vacation pet care but also dog walking and pet taxi service.
The love I have for my cat started it all. I have found over the years that other people have a strong bond for their pets as well. I hope that my story inspires others not to give up just because their pet is sick. They can live a long and health life. They have been with you through the tough times in your life, be there for the tough times in their life.
